Kathy Caldwell and Nancy Burgess Obern grand champions at cook off

Member Kathy Caldwell and assistant Nancy Burgess Obern participated in the Frontier Days Dutch Oven Cook-off at the Walla Walla fair, August 31, 2013.  The girls were thrilled that their team, called Goin’ Dutch won Grand Champion.  They also took home 2 people’s choice awards for dessert and main dish.  This Grand Champion win has qualified them to go to the International Dutch Oven Society, World  Championship Cook-off next March in Utah.   It’s a sure thing this fall will include some major brainstorming to see if they can plan a trip to Utah.  The categories and dishes cooked were; bread – Red Hot Buns, main-dish – Braised Short Ribs served with Creamy Polenta, dessert – Mama’s German Chocolate Cake.

 FYI- Kathy is also a talented fiddler and participates in many club music activities.
